Broadcast Journalism

Reflection:

In the realm of broadcast journalism, I find my true calling in a space where I feel both at home and motivated by the opportunity to share stories and experiences with audiences.

Over the years, my journey in broadcast journalism has been marked by a deepening understanding of the power of storytelling through various mediums, from the tardy policy at Frisco High to being live to hundreds of viewers on a State Semifinal broadcast.

Play-by-Play and Color Commentary:

Throughout the football season, I was privileged to call games and provide play-by-play and color commentary analysis in prestigious venues like the Dallas Cowboys Headquarters at The Star in Frisco and Toyota Stadium at The National Soccer Hall of Fame. Collaborating with seasoned professionals like Nick Harris and Kyle Youmans from the Dallas Cowboys' media team, I delved into the intricacies of sports broadcasting, refining my craft and immersing myself in the dynamic world of live sports commentating. For me, it’s a dream; I aspire to be like one of the greats like Chris Collinsworth of NBC’s Sunday Night Football or Jim Nantz of CBS Sports every Sunday.

Storytelling:

Beyond the confines of the studio, I've embraced opportunities to tell compelling stories through award-winning sports news packages for the Frisco Sports Network, from exploring the bonds of brotherhood at Wakeland High School to capturing Emerson's Cinderella-like run this year on the football field. As well as breaking a long-time stereotype within the Frisco High School football program of doing nothing but running the football to a sudden offensive switch with a high-flying passing attack to Panther Creek and Emerson High School’s first season with a full program with seniors. Each story offers a window into the diverse world of Texas high school football, showcasing the resilience, togetherness, and passion that define the sport.

Live Standups and Interviews:

My journey in broadcast journalism has been enriched by memorable experiences like completing a live standup from the Texas Rangers stadium and interviewing Dallas Cowboys player Tyler Smith through the Pat Doney Sportscaster camp. Additionally, having their unique and special chance to interview the Mayor of the country’s #1 safest and fastest growing city, Jeff Cheney, will be an experience I will never forget. These encounters have expanded my professional network, sharpened my interview techniques and enriched my storytelling abilities.
